Pantheon, Roma The Pantheon, Rome's only ancient building that has been maintained in constant use since its construction, is huge, beautiful and impressive. But at the time of our visit the exterior was encrusted with staging in use for cleaning and restoration, so I have no photographs. The interior is normally lit by this large open-air skylight, but as we were there just before sunset, the interior was too dark for effective photography. We were left with mental images of the ritual, held once each year, of accolytes dropping rose petals through the skylight upon worshippers during a service.
